    UVA Wise directions

Going to UVA Wise Saturday. Coming from Abingdon down 58. Was hoping to miss the 2 lane mountain road off of 58 that I went over last year to get to the college. Wife gets carsick. Any suggestions besides leaving the wife at home?

By avoiding the mountain you would go a long way out of your way. Really, the mountain is the best way to go.

Just stay on 58 when you get to Norton take 23 North
At second red light turn right
When you get into Wise turn right at red light on Main Street got to second red light turn right and you will almost be at the stadium

Can you get off 58 in Coeburn somewhere and not have to go over the mountain?

Not unless you want to go into Coeburn and go up Coeburn Mountain to Wise. It's just as curvy going that way as it is going up Tacoma Mountain.

The most direct route is Tacoma Mountain that your wifey hates. Sucks for you, but that's the way it is.

    Re: UVA Wise directions

The time difference by taking 19, 58, 23 into Wise is really fairly negligible, especially for someone with car sickness. You can just take that route - it's not out of the way. I generally dont take Tacoma mountain either. Sucky road - I dont trust the other drivers. Its not necessary.
    You'll shoot your eye out.

These look to be exact opposites... I coulda swore 58/23 was 4 laned all the way, and turning off at Coeburn put you ON the 2 lane mtn. to come "the back way" in to the college.

Anyway, yeah, go to Norton and hit 23 for a few miles. At the top of the hill, turn right. At the dead end, turn right. Go about a mile and turn right in the curve.

Coming from Richlands, is there a quicker way than going thru Hansonville? I doubt it, but ya never know.

    Re: UVA Wise directions

I think the best bet is going thru Coeburn and that way. I dunno the road names like yall do, but just go from Abingdon, to Castlewood, thru St. Paul and into Coeburn.+
We go to Abingdon all the time, and its the fastest way to go thru St. Paul/Castlewood

well, now that I can get on again, let me clarify... I said Hansonville, but I never do that... I always turn back at Lebanon and come out at D'ville.
